Foreigners have a monopoly on lunacy.- 27/08/1995.

The Pleasance.- Edinburgh.- UK.
Stewart Henessey, Scotland on Sunday.

This is the time of year when we can feast on foreign weirdo and wonder again why we loose when it comes to childish stupidity, quixotic lunacy, grotesque imaginings and innocent joy? The answer is simple: visual sense. Ours is limited for comedy, theirs is boundless. They also mess around with form and sound more. This can be seen in the range of imaginative acts which are so foreign they almost smell. Marceline i Sylvestre, spanish clowns at the Pleasance, dance, juggle, mime and pull silly faces. The hysterical performance, Rapsodia in Clown, jumps around in tempo, style and medium, yet it's seamless. One grand vision threads it together. There's no meaning, message or conscious themes to grapple with, just a colourful vision; a view of life as opposed to a view on life.
