A creative contemporary vision.- 17/09/1998.

Barcelona. España.
Jordi Jané, L'Avui.

Since musician, tightrope walker and eccentric circus clown Didier Armbruster "Zaza" recently joined them, Marceline and Sylvestre have adopted the perfect new name: Los Excéntricos (the eccentrics). Indeed, the precise construction of the characters and the way they interrelate on stage helps Marceline, Sylvestre and Zaza fully immerse themselves in the best tradition of eccentric clowning. This is a special category in the world of clowning that has given us artists such as Little Tich, Don Saunders, Avner and Howard Butten "Buffo". However, Los Excéntricos do not stop at merely adapting the genre's tradition. They also bring a creative contemporary vision to the stage, which has a lot to do with poetic surrealism. Their humour plays with concepts and situations, a friendly humour that is always served with such doses of spontaneity and an intuition for the stage that gets audiences of all ages and backgrounds immediately involved. Mere minutes into the show and an invisible tender cloud forms on the stage, and then floats imperceptibly into the audience, wrapping itself around each viewer's soul. In 1996, ‘Rapsodie in clown' received a Special Mention at the prestigious "Festival Internacional de Pallassos de Cornellà Memorial Charlie Rivel" for their ability to integrate the most avant-garde artistic innovations into the art of clowning. Since it premiered in 1994, it has received very warm welcomes at the most varied of competitions and stages: (Glastonbury, Krakow and Fellbach, etc.) Besides creativeness and professionalism, Los Excéntricos' work in ‘Rapsodia in Clown' reveals a special ability to create beauty from the most unexpected of sources. This show can be compared to a small jewel fashioned by three captivating jewellers with all their craft and love for the human race. Jordi Jané regularly writes critiques, essays and interviews about the circus, magic and variety shows for the Avui newspaper in Barcelona. He contributes to the French magazine Le Cirque Dans l'Univers, as well as radio and television programmes. He recently published "Centenari Charlie Rivel" (1996) and "Sebastià Gasch, el gust pel Circ" (1998) and is currently working on a biography of the clown Rogelio Rivel (the first circus clown in the globally famed Trío Rivels) plus a history of the stage arts in Catalonia. Both books are set to be published in 1999.
