Los Excentricos clowning around.- 23/02/2004.

Salle L´Arentelle.- St. Flour de Mercoire.- France.
Le midi Libre.

Oooh, my sides are splitting. This was one of the things the hordes of spectators from the age of 7 to 77 years old were saying about the Música Maestro performance last Friday. The theatre was packed to see this show presented by the Los Excéntricos troupe in the Arentelle, where they should really have knocked the walls down to make more space. Not that the show was at all painful in any way. Quite the opposite. The three performers, Marceline, Sylvestre and Zaza delighted their audience with a show that included juggling clowns and mischievous musicians, full of wit and all kinds of new ideas. Without a doubt, 20 years of working together have meant that this small troupe can now perform with their eyes closed, creating a show taken from the influences and encounters they have all experienced with different cultures. However, the key words here are clowning around and that in its purest of forms. Their outfits are multi-coloured, the music constant, embellishing the performance from start to finish as they each take their turn on the "bandoneon", the drums, the guitar, the "Double bass-broom" the "harmonica-gloves" and the musical saw. Zaza, a really cheeky clown, inspires hilarious comedy at the frenetic pace of his inimitable laughter and never-ending stream of jokes. Sylvestre juggles five balls on a synthesised kettle drum or banters with his double, a mechanical talking head. Marceline sprinkles water on the audience from the start of the show with a comedy umbrella and stuns the crowd with an amazing levitation number. A three-legged tango, magic tricks, champagne and some slaps around the face all add up to a tasty and amusing cocktail. Situations as funny as they are improbable follow one after the other, full of surprises and wonderfully original. The performance lasted for an hour and a half but the time seemed to fly by for children and parents alike who all laughed their heads off. With this show Los Excentricos have chosen to remind the public that music, juggling, magic and clowning around can be brilliantly combined in a truly inventive, original and marvellously creative art, all for the greatest possible amusement of their audience.
